Emirates Business Class to Amman

I was excited in that this was my first trip to the Middle East, and even more excited as I finally had an excuse to fly Emirates. For the first time in my life I would not be at the airport over five hours before my flight, one of my many signature moves. Emirates includes chauffeur service to and from the airport. I was picked up at my house and handed a boarding pass. At the airport I dropped off my bag, cleared security, and then headed to the lounge. In Seattle, Emirates use the Club at SEA lounge, which while not as nice as the Delta lounge still offered a quiet place to relax and enjoy a drink.

I was hoping to fly on the A380 on my 14-hour flight to Dubai, however while the A380 can land and take-off in Seattle, the taxiways are too narrow to taxi on while any other traffic exists. So, I was on a local Boeing 777-300ER which was still great, just missing the on-board bar and lounge. I found my seat and browsed the menu in preparation for my two meals and many snacks.

I read a few words from the chef and checked out the drink situation.

The second part of the menu all looked like this, which is very similar to when I try and write cursive. I was unsuccessful in reading it and later found out that they read from right to left instead of left to right. It didn’t help, I was still unsuccessful in reading it.

I then browsed Emirates famous ICE, their Information, Communications, and Entertainment system which consists of over 2,500 channels of entertainment.

It’s a touch screen but you don’t have to lean forward to operate it as they give you a second screen in the form of a wireless tablet.

They provided a nice amenity kit, however it was missing a critical component when traveling to the Middle East, no lip balm.

I sat back and engaged the massage feature as we prepared for take-off.

Feeling relaxed I enjoyed a glass of wine and some nuts before lunch was served.

In order to get in the Middle East vibe I ordered the Arabic Mezze for an appetizer followed by the mixed grill for my main.

They had a lovely cheese platter that paired nicely with the wine for dessert.

But with all that being said the coolest part of this flight was that we were flying over the north pole on the way to Dubai.

After lunch I reclined my seat flat as the flight attendants handed out small mattresses, pillows, and blankets. I drifted off to sleep under Emirates famous starry sky.

I woke up just in time to enjoy breakfast and they handed out Fast Track passes so we would not have to wait in the transfers line, allowing more time in the Emirates lounge in Dubai.

The lounge basically travels the entire first half of the terminal and includes five bars and buffets. I only visited three of them as one was for smoking and the other was a health bar without alcohol.

After 14 hours in a plane I was a little gamy and decided to put that amenity kit to use. I went and showered so I was fresh for my three hour flight to Amman.

I then relaxed in one of the many private areas in the lounge until boarding.

We made our way from Dubai to Amman being careful not to cross in to Iraqi airspace.

I landed in Amman and cleared customs and immigration. I found my bag and driver to the hotel. Along the way my driver told me three interesting facts:

1. The Jordanian weekend is Friday and Saturday with Sunday being the first day of the work week, thus we were caught in rush hour on the way to the hotel.

2. All houses in Amman can only have limestone brick on the outside, nothing else, nothing fancy.

3. Jordan does not have any crude oil, their biggest source of income is tourism.

I got to the hotel and it was great to see Malcolm and Loretta! They are two of the most beautiful people I know. I cleaned up and met the rest of my traveling companions for a drink and dinner in the hotel restaurant. I never met these people before but knew we would all connect and travel well together, we all shared the common bond of the plant medicine Ayahuasca. I would normally never do group travel, preferring to travel with friends, family, or just by myself. In fact, I like being the lone wolf, well, except at the wolf picnic when I can’t find a partner for the wolf wheelbarrow race. But I love Blue Morpho and the people it attracts, I would group travel with them anywhere.
