Sandboarding and Desert Wandering

Today I would get to finally try something I have missed out on time and time again, sandboarding. Sossusvlei, Namibia - ran out of time, Huacachina, Peru - ran out of time, Cape Town, South Africa - it rained. If you have ever snowboarded you are probably screwed here as it is nothing like snowboarding. First, there is no binding, just some loose rope that you can hook your feet under, so holding an edge is not possible. Second, you don't really get moving fast enough to warrant any kind of turns. So it's more like when you were a kid and tried to stand up on your sled as you headed down the hill. Here is Carrie giving us a demonstration.

On the way back we stopped at one of the rock bridges.

Back at camp we ate lunch. I then turned on the air conditioner in my room before heading out to wander the desert.

A few of us wanted to experience the desert on our own so we set off in opposite directions to wander for the afternoon. I packed my day pack with survival gear just in case.

And so I started walking, the smell of the dry air, the gentle breeze, the clear skies, and the random pattern of low vibrational energy. This was my time.

Step after step, letting go of the garbage in my mind so that I could replace it with the lessons from the desert.

A few more petroglyphs.

I then stumbled across that goat herder's goats again and took in the local wildlife.

While it was not quite 40 years like that fella Moses, I was approaching the four hour mark and figured I should start heading back. I'm pretty sure the camp is over by that rock. With all this walking I think I earned another one of those crazy 16.8 beers.

Back at camp we gathered around the fire/oven and continued to share our stories, giving them new energy as they would now be carried on by others.
