Returning to Civilization with a Stop at Kerak Castle

Today was mostly a travel day as we would be heading back to a proper hotel with a brief stop in this town for lunch.

Here is lunch.

So instead I, along with everyone else, decided to eat vegetarian, and opted for the falafel.

We then stopped at Kerak Castle, a Crusader castle. Our guide Abraham was relieved to see that there was no escape tunnel here.

We were lucky to see this as less the three months ago on December 18th, 2016 this was the site of a terrorist attack in which ten people were killed and 34 were injured. It only recently reopened to the public.

The castle has lots of places to explore and was much like a small city, including an inside market.

The castle sits high on a rocky ledge. If you were naughty and were not believing in or telling the story the way the rulers wanted you to, they simply hurled your body off the cliff. The impact was not enough to kill you right away but enough to cripple you, so you would die a slow death from internal injury. Nice views though.

We continued on to our hotel which was right on the banks of the Dead Sea, arriving just as the sun was setting.

We sat down for dinner and I was a bit disappointed in their selection of local beer.
